“I only want to help a few others see this, maybe spread some compassion. That’s not too much to ask, is it?”
The self is saying: “Just allow me this humble identity, this small margin of doing, these few crumbs of love to spread. Take away all of me but leave me this.”
Anything a “you” wants keeps that you firmly in place.
But the wanting itself is not the problem!
The belief that there is an “I” who wants — that is the problem.
It’s another mistaken identity: that of the humble, awake person who can perhaps stumbingly serve a handful of others.
You’re identified with a self, but now this self is supposedly so small it’s almost gone. It wants almost nothing — except to do a little good!
It’s the mistaken belief that awakening is about progressively minimizing the self.
The body you call your name may very well help others. It may write, or teach, or help the poor. The question is not what the body does.
The question is: Do you believe you are a someone?
When no-self is seen, any want — even wanting almost nothing — is just a thought passing through the infinite, eternal YOU.
It’s a thought about no one.
The body you call your name ...
I really like that, so well put ☺️
