I found Catguru's Ten Meows much later, long after he had left his ninth life in this realm. Scribbled in what I hope is red ink on a strip of dirty white cloth, rolled up in a bamboo tube sealed with wax, these ten verses represent the very essence of his teachings. Teachings that unfortunately most of his followers never understood.
To this day, that tattered piece of cloth is my most valued and honored possession. I know many will doubt the authenticity of the document. They will say there is no proof this was ever written or dictated by Catguru, even though I found it among the trash of the temple complex where he’d spent his last months. But to those who knew him, there can be no doubt.
And although not every word was legible, I was able with much effort (thanks to the many hours spent listening to him) to complete the verses as I believe Oscar would have spoken them.
I have always intended to write a detailed commentary of the text but have never done so. Honestly, I have been unsure whether I would be up to the task. So today, I humbly share these words here as I transcribed them, in the hope that you may glean from them the depth and wisdom they contain.
The Ten Meows
1.
Round and round you go, chasing your tail
What chases?
Look closely:
No chaser to separate from the chase.
2.
Gecko comes, gecko goes
But watching is still
Are YOU not this eternal Stillness?
Meow is always already Meow.
3.
If you're this furry body
Then what knows the whiskers and paws?
Is the purrceiver itself purrceivable?
You are THAT in which all catness plays.
4.
"I am the hunter" is a thought,
A laser dot on the wall of Consciousness
Do you produce the dot, make it come or go?
Pouncing is always spontaneous.
5.
The independent feline you think you are
Is a collection of meowmories
A fairytale told to no-cat
By no-cat about no-cat.
6.
Every bird watched
Is known in pure immediacy
No gap between cat and bird
ONE, appearing as two.
7.
Seeking the Red Dot
Is the Red Dot seeking itself
A kitten chasing its reflection
It already IS what it tries to catch.
8.
Your true cat nature
Can't be caught or lost
Can't be taught, learned, or practiced
Can't be entered or left.
9.
The catidentity you think you are
Is a roleplay in Consciousness
Like a dreamcat in the great cosmic
Catnap of Awareness.
10.
Too simple for even the sharpest claws to grasp
Come, rest in this moonbeam of JOY
Knowing that prior to, within, and as all meows,
THIS is purrfection.
Purrceivable 🤣 I like this so much. I can sense a book. Put me on the Catguru pre-order and fanclub list please.
❤️🙏🏻😄
A tale well told, the plot the script all very well narrated. And the 10 meows are so deep that most readers are likely to miss but few will definitely get them.
