I fell for the idea that calm surroundings and a silent mind were requirements.
What nonsense.
The body sits in the passenger seat.
There’s engine noise, noise from dense traffic, the radio is on, and the body driving is speaking about the day at work.
There are also thoughts; many, many thoughts.
And ALL of this noise is wrapped in — submerged in — total SILENCE.
This stillness is always there, within and around any internal or external noise.
It’s not stronger or more present when there are no thoughts or quiet surroundings. In fact, quiet surroundings can seem to heighten the volume of thoughts.
But THIS, this is SILENCE, all the time.
A permanent, incredibly deep and spacious ocean of stillness filled with noise.
And this body really dislikes noise.
It’s impossible to describe.
Once again, this is not about what the self thinks it’s about.
The thinking self is itself the SILENCE.
It only becomes obvious when the self is seen to be a construct within THIS.
“Silence is another name for God. Quietness is a name for consciousness, peace. Everything is found in the silence and not too much in the words. In quietness, you should try to be quiet for as long as you can, especially when you are at home. Try to sit in the silence and quietness for as long as you can. It’s in the silence where you will receive the message. It’s in the silence where pure awareness reveals itself to you. Never be afraid to sit in the silence. It’s your greatest asset.
- Robert Adams”
Yes, totally. It all arises within the silence or co-occurs or whatever. You don’t need a quiet mind to experience silence. You are never not the silence
